The Great Space Airship
The Story
Using his latest invention (the Great Space Airship), Sir Maximillian Wigglebottom will be the first person to reach the moon. But his rival inventor, Baron Octavius Von Merriwether, thinks otherwise. Help Sir Wigglebottom navigate around the Baron's deadly, poisonous clouds and make it to the moon!

(07:18)The Backstory
This world was created in two weeks for the Building Virtual Worlds class. Our task was to create a consistent, highly interactive, and engaging experience that lets guests feel like they have a lot of freedom in the choices they make. We were also only allowed to give "naive guests" one verbal instruction.
We came up with a vertical maze in which the guest navigates using a balloon. This was partly in response to our given platform, the Playmotion. Often, Playmotion worlds involve a guest standing in front of the screen to create a shadow. This inherently blocks the view of the guest and the audience. The helium balloon prevented that obstruction. We used a white balloon so that the Great Space Airship could be visible on that surface and further immerse the guest in the game.
Concept Sketch
(01:09)As we developed our idea we heard that another team was creating a world in the steampunk genre. This led to a collaboration in which we shared some artwork assets and characters from our stories. We also requested to present our worlds back to back, using the same naive guest.

It was an honor to have this world featured in the BVW show. It holds the distinction of being the first and only BVW world to have won a First Penguin Award AND to have been selected for the show.
